A few days before the Gergiev-performance, his colleague Michel Tabachnik conducted in Groningen a fantastically prepared and performed Verdi Requiem. Although you have to be careful with statements like this, I know almost for sure that Tabachnik himself got more satisfaction out of the performances than Gergiev.
